For those finding out they are the result of donor fraud, it can be unsettling and sometimes devastating. This discovery goes beyond other Donor Conceived (DC) discoveries as it adds an additional layer of secrecy and shame tied to the deception and betrayal by medical professionals who are entrusted to help patients. These violations and abuses highlight the glaring lack of oversight in the Fertility Industry.
As you navigate through this discovery we strongly recommend that you create a support group of family, friends, and therapists. Many of us have found a lot of support in connecting with others who have experienced the same discovery. We have gathered what we hope is helpful information of available support as you work through this difficult time.
For those struggling with a DC discovery some have found adoption therapist/counselors extremely helpful or those specializing in trauma. For those feeling they were violated or the result of violation, look for a therapist/counselor who has experience working with assault victims. Since everyone's experience and struggles are different, it is okay if it takes trying out a few different therapists to find the right one for you.
** We are partnering with Counseling Collective and Right to Know to help build a free public directory of qualified mental health professionals as well as expand and create more training for those in the health care community interested in supporting those in the DC community.
The sole purpose of this group is to provide information on upcoming retreats to Adoptees/LDA's, DC's and NPE's. Our retreats encourage folks to come together on their journey to healing.
